Day 158 – A Year in the Bible – Psalm 16-20
______
PSALM 16 – THOU WILT SHEW ME THE PATH OF LIFE
Psalm 16 is a beautiful expression of trust in God attributed to King David. It speaks of finding refuge in God, the joy of being in His presence, and the assurance of His faithful care. The psalm also contains Messianic prophecy, with verses 8-11 pointing towards the resurrection of Christ. This psalm is a source of comfort and inspiration for believers and includes one of my all-time favorite verses and promises of God.
Thou wilt shew me the path of life: In thy presence is fulness of joy; At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. – Psalm 16:11
The LORD is the Portion of Mine Inheritance
The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: Thou maintainest my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; Yea, I have a goodly heritage. – Psalm 16:5-6
Neither Wilt Thou Suffer Thine Holy One to See Corruption
I have set the LORD always before me: Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: My flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: In thy presence is fulness of joy; At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. – Psalm 16:8-11

PSALM 17 – HIDE ME UNDER THE SHADOW OF THY WINGS

Psalm 17 is a prayer for protection and justice, where the Psalmist asks God to defend him against his enemies and to vindicate him from false accusations.
Hold Up My Goings in Thy Paths
Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer. Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not. – Psalm 17:4-5
Keep Me as the Apple of the Eye
Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings. – Psalm 17:8
I Shall Be Satisfied, When I Awake, with Thy Likeness
As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness. – Psalm 17:15

PSALM 18 – THE LORD IS MY ROCK AND MY FORTRESS AND MY DELIVERER

Psalm 18 is a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness, protection, and deliverance. The psalmist declares that God is his rock and fortress. He describes the difficult circumstances in which God saved him and acknowledges it was only through God’s strength and power that he overcame his enemies.
I Will Love Thee, O LORD, My Strength
I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: So shall I be saved from mine enemies.- Psalm 18:1-3
It is God that Girdeth Me with Strength
For who is God save the Lord? Or who is a rock save our God? It is God that girdeth me with strength, and markets my way perfect. He markets my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places. – Psalm 18:31-33
He Delivered Me, Because He Delighted in Me
He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because he delighted in me. – Psalm 18:19
Thy Gentleness Hath Made Me Great
As for God, his way is perfect: The word of the LORD is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in him. For who is God save the LORD? Or who is a rock save our God? It is God that girdeth me with strength, And maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, And setteth me upon my high places. He teacheth my hands to war, So that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms. Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: And thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great. Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, That my feet did not slip. – Psalm 18:30-36
The LORD Liveth and Blessed Be My Rock
The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; And let the God of my salvation be exalted. – Psalm 18:46
God Protects, Provides, and Shows Unending Mercy to His Anointed Ones
It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me. He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man. Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name. Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore. ~ Psalms 18:47-50

PSALM 19 – THE TESTIMONY OF THE LORD IS SURE

The Fear of the LORD is Clean, Enduring For Ever
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. – Psalm 19:7-10
Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable, O Lord
Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. – Psalm 19:11-14

PSALM 20 – WE WILL REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE LORD OUR GOD
Some trust in chariots and some in horses
Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel. We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the Lord fulfil all thy petitions. Now know I that the Lord saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright. – Psalms 20:4-8
