The Greatest of These is Charity

Esther 8:1–10:3; 1 Corinthians 12:27–13:13; Psalm 37:1-11; Proverbs 21:23-24

Yet Shew I Unto You a More Excellent Way
Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. – 1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:27-31‬‬

The More Excellent Way
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. – 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Charity
• suffereth long
• is kind
• envieth not
• vaunteth not itself
• is not puffed up
• doth not behave itself unseemly
• seeketh not her own
• is not easily provoked
• thinketh no evil
• rejoiceth not in iniquity
• but rejoiceth in the truth
• beareth all things
• believeth all things
• hopeth all things
• endureth all things
• never faileth

– 1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:4-8‬a‬

That Which is in Part Shall Be Done Away With
but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. – 1 Corinthians 13:8b-10

But Then Shall I Know
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. –
1 Corinthians 13:11-12

Faith, Hope, Charity
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; –
1 Corinthians 13:13a

But the Greatest of These…
but the greatest of these is charity.
 – 1 Corinthians 13:13b

______

Purim
And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them; because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them; but when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and which had come unto them, the Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year; and that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed. – Esther 9:23-28

Mordecai – Great Among the Jews
For Mordecai the Jew was next unto king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed
. – Esther 10:3

Rest in the LORD
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: Fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: But those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace
. – Psalm 37:7-11

Proud, Haughty Scorner
Proud and haughty scorner is his name, Who dealeth in proud wrath
. – Proverbs 21:24

“Proud,” “Haughty,” “Scoffer,” are his names Who acts with overbearing and insolent pride. – Proverbs 21:24 AMP
