A Tree of Life

Proverbs 11:30
a lamp and a light – the podcast

Day 85 One-Year Daily Bible Passages – Deuteronomy 5:1–6:25; Luke 7:11-35; Psalm 68:19-35; Proverbs 11:29-31

______

A Tree of Life
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. – Proverbs 11:30

We must die to self to bear fruit that we might then plant a seed that would win a soul. The Bible uses the image of seeds and fruit for a reason. The seed is the Word, and it is planted and grows in our lives. If it is nurtured and watered, and pruned when necessary, it grows until it bears fruit. Fruit is ripe in its season, but it has to die for the seeds it bears to be planted again and bear more fruit. We must die to our desires and yield to death that we may have seeds gathered and planted that they might be harvested in the coming days. The harvest is coming from a tree of life. He that winneth souls is wise but before there is a tree of life there is a death.

______

And He that was Dead Sat Up and Began to Speak
And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judæa, and throughout all the region round about. – Luke‬ ‭7:11-17‬

Art Thou He that Should Come? Or Look We for Another?
And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things. And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. – Luke‬ ‭7:18-23‬‬‬

What Went Ye Out into the Wilderness for to See?
And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts. But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. – Luke 7:24-27

No Greater Prophet
For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. – Luke‬ ‭7:28-30‬

We Have Piped Unto You, and Ye Have Not Danced
And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept. For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil. The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! But wisdom is justified of all her children. – Luke‬ ‭7:31-35‬‬

John was great. Jesus said here that there was not a prophet greater than John. But as great as John was, this verse tells us that it is better to be the lowliest worker in the Kingdom than even the greatest of those that announce it.

We can take that as a lesson for today. As far as modern-day prophets, it is greater to take what that prophet speaks to you and walk it out for Kingdom purposes, even if it seems to be the most menial of tasks than to be the one that only speaks it.

______

He Loadeth Us With Benefits (Every Single Day)
Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah
. – Psalm 68:19

This verse says that not only does the Lord give us benefits daily, but that He gives them in loads – he loadeth us with them daily.

Loadeth – to supply in abundance or excess

The God of Israel Giveth Strength and Power
To him that rideth upon the heavens of heavens, which were of old; Lo, he doth send out his voice, and that a mighty voice. Ascribe ye strength unto God: His excellency is over Israel, And his strength is in the clouds. O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: The God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God. – Psalm‬ ‭68:33-35‬

______

Hear, Oh Israel
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: and thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates
. – Deuteronomy 6:4-9

The Hebrew word for hear is “Shema.” This word doesn’t stop at meaning “hear,” though. The meaning goes further to not only hear but to act because of the hearing.

Many of the Psalms begin with the word Shema. And the prayer in this passage is so important that it is not only called by the name Shema, but these verses are taught, recited often, and many even put them into a mezuzah and attach it to their front door.

Israel was not commanded to hear the Words of God only but to act on the Words as well. We are too!

______

God, thank You for Your salvation and thank You for Your many daily benefits. Amid this day that will surely be busy, please help me to remain aware of Your presence in my life. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

He Said, “IF…”

Deuteronomy 4:1-2
a lamp and a light – the podcast

Day 84 One-Year KJV Bible Passages – Deuteronomy 4:1-49; Luke 6:39–7:10; Psalm 68:1-18; Proverbs 11:28

______

If you look at what He asks of you next to what He promises, that should make obedience a joy.

If You Keep the Commandments of the Lord
Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I [Moses] teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you. Ye shall not add unto the Word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish aught from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you
. – Deuteronomy 4:1-2

Why did God say don’t add or take away from the Word? He said it so that the Word would not be diminished. If you obey a diminished command, you are not in obedience to the Lord’s actual command.

IF you follow His commands, IF you keep the statutes and judgments taught to you, you will live. Not only will you live, but you will go in and possess the land which the Lord has promised you. That was for Moses day, but it still applies today. There is a land, a place, and a call that He has promised you. It is your Promised Land.

Diminish – to make less or cause to appear less; to lessen the authority, dignity, or reputation of; to become gradually less
Aught – anything

______

If You Seek Him, You Will Find Him
But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice; (for the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.
 – Deuteronomy 4:29-31

IF we seek Him, we will find Him! IF you turn to the Lord and obey His voice, He will not forsake you or destroy you or forget the covenant He made to you.

If You Keep His Statutes and Commandments
Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else. Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever
. – Deuteronomy 49:39-40

IF you keep His commandments, things will go well with you, and He will prolong your days on this earth and the days of your children!!!

______

If You Hear Him and Obey Him
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: he is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
 – Luke 6:46-49

Here is another promise. IF you come to Him, hear Him, and obey Him, you will be like the one who built his house on a good foundation. When the storm comes, your house will stand. If you come to Him, hear Him, and don’t obey, you will be like the one who built his house with no foundation, and when the storm comes, it breaks up immediately.

______

Let God Arise, Let His Enemies Be Scattered
Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.
 – Psalm 68:1-3

IF we keep close to God and live full of the Holy Ghost, our enemies will scatter when He arises in our lives. If they hate Him, they will flee, even from us, who have Him living within. The enemy must leave because nothing of the enemy can stand and stay in the presence of almighty God. On that day, we will be glad and rejoice. But we won’t just rejoice. We will exceedingly rejoice!!!

______

If You Live Righteously, You Shall Flourish
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch
. – Proverbs 11:28

Another promise is in this Proverb. IF you live righteously, you will flourish.

Righteous – to act in accord with divine or moral law; free from guilt or sin
Flourish – to achieve success, prosper; grow luxuriantly, thrive

He said IF…
What great promises are given to us today in these passages!!! IF you keep His commands – you will live and possess the land, you will find Him, He will not forsake you or destroy you or forget the covenant He made to you, things will go well with you, and He will prolong your days on earth, and your children’s days. You will be one with a good foundation, and you will flourish

If you look at what He asks of you next to what He promises, that should make obedience a joy.

He said IF…

Thank You, God. Thank You for Your precious promises. Please help me to be obedient to Your Word and Your Will today knowing that every promise and every condition for that promises is for my good and Your Glory. In Jesus Name I ask this. AmenAmen!

Deuteronomy 3:26
a lamp and a light – the podcast

Day 83 One-Year Daily Bible Passages – Deuteronomy 2:1–3:29; Luke 6:12-38; Psalm 67:1-7; Proverbs 11:27

______

Let It Suffice
And I besought the LORD at that time, saying, O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might? I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon. But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter. Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan. But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see. – Deuteronomy 3:23-28

As we have made our way through the Old Testament this year, I have wondered if Moses accepted that God wasn’t going to let him enter the Promised Land. Did he ask God at any time to allow him to go in despite that He had sinned in striking the rock instead of leading the people to glorify God by bringing forth water according to God’s direction? Here was my answer, and I have never seen this passage before.

This passage says God would not hear his plea, and then He added – Enough! Be satisfied with seeing it from the top of Mt. Pisgah, and don’t mention it again!!!

I have also wondered if God ever gets tired of our asking the same thing over and over. Well, here we have the answer to that question too.

I guess there is a fine line between persistence and satisfaction with God’s will when it doesn’t seem to go our way. That fine line is what God has spoken. If God has said it, it is so. He is not a man that He should lie.

Help me, Lord, to accept your will in all areas of my life. Please help me to be satisfied. To let it suffice, to wait quietly and prayerfully for Your leading and Your direction.

Suffice – to be enough or adequate for; satisfy

Jesus Went to a Mountain to Pray and Continued All Night
And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. – Luke‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬ ‭

He Chose Twelve Whom He Also Named Apostles
And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphæus, and Simon called Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor. And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judæa and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; and they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all. – Luke‬ ‭6‬:‭13‬-‭19‬ ‭

The Way
And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. 26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.

But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also. Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. 31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. – Luke 6:20-38

When I don’t know what to do, these passages known as the Sermon on the Mount are right here to tell me how to act and how to react. Thank You, Lord, for Your clear direction. What was “The Way?” This Sermon was the message of Jesus. When we say we want to look and act like Jesus, we are to look like this.

We have heard these verses many times, but sometimes we need to ask the Holy Spirit to give us fresh revelation regarding what we have always heard. Today what struck me was this from verse 35 – Lend, hoping for nothing again. How often do I do good deeds, and deep down I hope for something from it? We lend our resources, our joy, our hope, our abilities. We hope that someone notices. Surely God promises us blessings as we are a blessing, but once we start focusing on what we hope for – we lose the blessing because we have made it about us instead of about Jesus.

______

That Thy Way May Be Known
God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations. – Psalm 67:1-2

______

Seek Good
He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him. – Proverbs 11:27

Help me, Lord, to truly walk this out. To truly walk in THE WAY – Your Way!!! Please help me, that Thy Way may be known in all the earth. In Jesus Name. Amen!!!

If I Regard Iniquity in My Heart

a lamp and a light – the podcast

Day 82 One-Year KJV Bible Passages
Numbers 36:1—Deuteronomy 1:46; Luke 5:29–6:11; Psalm 66:1-20; Proverbs 11:24-26

______

The Lord Will Not Hear
If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.
– Psalm 66:18-20

Regard – to have or show respect or concern for; to think highly of; esteem
Iniquity – Gross injustice; a wicked act or thing; sin

One version says, “if you cherished iniquity in my heart.” Another says, “If I regard sin and baseness in my heart [that is, if I know it is there and do nothing about it]

If I like my sin and refuse to turn away from it, God will not hear my prayers! What a huge, huge price to pay. To not have your Father in heaven hear your prayers. To not know that He is listening to your crys and your requests. To not know that you can commune with the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. How sad that would be. Yet, that that isn’t even the highest price. The sins that we regard only lead to an eternity in hell. Turn from sin and turn to Jesus before it is too late. Even one day without a relationship with Jesus is way too high a price to pay!!! Help us all Lord.

______

The Lord Will Not Hear (An Example from Today’s Reading)
And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies. So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill. And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah. And ye returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD would not hearken to your voice, nor give ear unto you.
– Deuteronomy 1:42-45

Oh Lord, to not have You hear when I call would be way too high a price. Please show me any wicked thing in my life, any thing that I have tolerated, any bit of rebellion to Your commands that keep my prayers from Your ear. In Jesus Name, I pray. Amen! Amen!

I Came Not to Call the Righteous, But Sinners to Repentance
And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them. But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. – Luke‬ ‭5‬:‭29‬-‭32‬ ‭

Why Do Other Disciples Fast, but ThineEat and Drink?
And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink? And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old. And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved. No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better. – Luke‬ ‭5‬:‭33-‭39‬ ‭

Jesus’ Disciples Plucked Ears of Corn on the Sabbath
And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands. And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days? And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him; how he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone? And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. – Luke‬ ‭6‬:‭1‬-‭5‬

Jesus Heals – the Scribes and Pharisees are Filled with Madness
And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered. And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other. And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.
– Luke 6:6–11

Jesus went against the beliefs of the religious leaders regarding the Sabbath laws. The rule was no work could be done on the Sabbath, and there was a constant battle over what constitutes work. They believed Jesus would sin by healing someone on the Sabbath, but Jesus wasn’t playing that game. He asked them a question. Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath or evil deeds? Is this a day to save or destroy life? He looked around at each of them and then said to the man to stretch forth his hand. Jesus healed the man, right there on the Sabbath. The religious leaders were enraged and began discussing what to do with Jesus.

______

The Generous
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
– Proverbs 11:25

The generous are not the people who have an abundance and decide to give. The generous are the people who provide regardless of what they have. A generous person will share their last bite or the coat off of their back, even if they don’t have an extra…and they will not make you feel bad about it. A generous person will not just share their wealth, but they will share their joy, their piece, their kindness.

Lord, help me, please, to be a generous person with all of Your blessings. In Jesus Name. Amen!!!

Blessed is the Man Whom Thou Choosest

Psalm 65:4
a lamp and a light – the podcast

Day 81 One-Year Daily Bible Passages – Numbers 33:40–35:34; Luke 5:12-28; Psalm 65:1-13; Proverbs 11:23

______

Chosen
Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple. – Psalm 65:4

What a blessed place to be allowed into the Presence of the One True and Living God; to be allowed to approach the King of kings and Lord of lords on behalf of ourselves and others. To have the Father’s ear. What a privilege to be chosen for a time such as this.

______

Obey With No Compromise
But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell. Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.
 – Numbers 33:55-56

God instructed the Israelites to claim the land of Canaan and drive out all the people living there, destroy all their pagan shrines, take possession of the land and settle in. The inhabitants were wicked, and God warned His children that they would become a source of irritation or discomfort if they did not get rid of every last one of them.

Just as the Israelites were hesitant to clear out all the wicked people, we are reluctant to clear out all the sins in our lives. Maybe that is because we are afraid of the changes and potential danger in what lies ahead (just as the Israelites feared the giants), or maybe we are hesitant because the sin seems harmless or we enjoy it. Whatever the reason, we all have idols we don’t want to let go of  (an addiction, an unhealthy relationship, a particular lifestyle). If we allow any “idol” to dominate us, it will cause great grief and it will harass. Sin left to it’s own will eventually lead to death.

Confess your sin (your idols) and ask God for help. He alone can strip off these weights that trip you and slow you down. Obey Him. Follow His instructions without seeking compromise. Love others as He loves you and He will change you, on the inside and outside. In the end there really is no choice. If you don’t do it God’s way, He says in this verse the punishment of those He opposes, will be brought upon you.

______

A Man Full of Leprosy
And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him. And he charged him totell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities. – Luke‬ ‭5:12-15‬ ‭

He Withdrew Himself Into the Wilderness and Prayed
And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed. And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judæa, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. – Luke‬ ‭5:16-17‬

When He Saw Their Faith
And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. – Luke‬ ‭5:18-20‬

Who Can Forgive Sins, But God Alone?
And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. – Luke‬ ‭5:21-24‬ ‭

He Left All, Rose Up, and Followed Him
And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me. And he left all, rose up, and followed him. – Luke‬ ‭5:27-28‬ ‭

We Have Seen Strange Things To Day
And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day. – Luke‬ ‭5:25-26‬ ‭

They saw the healings and were amazed, glorified God but having seen these “strange” things; they were full of fear. They were not used to seeing miracles. Today, we have heard about many miracles of the past, but I find it still an extraordinary thing upon seeing an actual miracle. I will be thrilled when we enter a season that miracles and healing will be ordinary because we are that full of the Spirit.

Strange – unusual, extraordinary, curious

Desiring Only Good
The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath
. – Proverbs 11:23

People that are full of wrath are not right with the Lord. Those that are right with the Lord desire good and only good.

Wrath – Strong, stern, or fierce anger; deeply resentful

Please Father!!! Help me, Lord to forsake all resentment. Help me to forsake all envy, where every evil thing dwelleth. Help me to have Your mind and Your heart. I can’t do it on my own but I know when I give it to You, You can take my heart and make it brand new. I ask these things in Jesus Holy Name. Amen!

Discouragement Breeds Discouragement

Day 80 One-Year Daily Bible Passages – Numbers 32:1–33:39; Luke 4:31–5:11; Psalm 64:1-10; Proverbs 11:22

______

Discouragement Breeds Discouragement
Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle; the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying, Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon, even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle: wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan. And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them? – Numbers 32:1-7

The leaders of the tribes of Reuben and Gad looked at the land just before the Jordan River and thought it was the perfect land for them because it was suitable for their cattle. The problem was that the Promised Land was on the other side of the Jordan River. They came to Moses and asked if they could just settle there and have that land as their inheritance.

Moses responded, Why will you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord has given them? Moses knew that the attitude of the tribes of Reuben and Gad could very well keep all of Israel from going into the Promised Land.  Their attitude said – we’ve fought enough and suffered enough and waited long enough. Let’s just settle down where we are.

Moses reminded the leaders why their ancestors failed to enter the Promised Land all those years before. The negative reports alone did not keep them out. They were kept out because the nation as a whole yielded to those reports. The children of Israel failed to trust God’s plans and promises and that kept them wandering.

The discouragement of the leaders came upon the nation, which kept an entire generation of Israelites from the Promises of God. If any had wholly followed the LORD, the discouraging report wouldn’t have influenced them. What made Joshua and Caleb different was that they wholly followed the LORD. They did not bend in trusting the Lord when the discouraging report of the ten unfaithful spies came forth.

How many of us have developed the “I’ve waited long enough” attitude? I know I have. How has your report sounded? Oh my!!!

When we are not wholly following the LORD, we are more likely to be influenced by the flesh, and in turn, we will affect others. The result will be to be discouraged ourselves and run the enormous risk of discouraging those around us. Complacency is contagious!

It is a terrible thing to be used by the devil to discourage other believers so that they walk away from what God has promised. We should repent if we have, ask for forgiveness, and also ask God to guard us against ever discouraging the heart of another child of God.

This passage has some other good reminders. First, guard your own heart. If you want to press in and go deeper and further with God, be careful of your company and who you allow speaking into your life. Discouraging words discourage!

And also, if your circle of friends is content where they are and don’t want to press for more of the Lord – BEWARE! Their excuses may sound good, but at the root of anything other than the Promise is either the “I am tired of waiting” attitude or an “I have arrived – after all look at all this green grass” attitude. Anything short of what God has promised isn’t God’s perfect will.

Be Sure Your Sins Will Find You Out
And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war, and will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him, and the land be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD. But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out. – Numbers‬ ‭32:20-23‬

His Word was with Power
And (Jesus) came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days. And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power. – Luke‬ ‭4:31-32‬‬

With Authority and Power He Commandeth Unclean Spirits
And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not. And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out. And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about. – Luke‬ ‭4:33-37‬‬

Jesus Rebuked the Fever and It Left Her
And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them. – Luke‬ ‭4:38-39‬‬

He Laid His Hands on Every One of Them, and Healed Them
Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ. And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them. And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee. – Luke‬ ‭4:40-44‬ ‬

He Sat Down and Taught the People Out of the Ship
And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, and saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. – Luke‬ ‭5:1-3‬ ‬

Launch Out Into the Deep and Cast Out Your Nets
Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. – Luke‬ ‭5:4-7‬‬

I Am a Sinful Man, O Lord
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: and so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. – Luke 5:8-10a

They Forsook All and Followed Him
And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. – Luke‬ ‭5:10a-11

This miracle of the fish brought Peter and the others face-to-face with Jesus, the Son of God, and their sinfulness before Him. Isn’t that the purpose of every miracle?

Fasting
And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. – Luke‬ ‭4:1-2‬ ‭

And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. – Luke‬ ‭4:9-13‬ ‭

This Day is This Scripture Fulfilled in Your Ears
And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. – Luke‬ ‭4:16-21‬ ‭

Is Not This Joseph’s Son?

And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. – Luke‬ ‭4:22-23‬ ‭

And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian. – Luke‬ ‭4:24-27‬ ‭

All They In the Synagogue Were Filled with Wrath
And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. But he passing through the midst of them went his way. – Luke‬ ‭4:28-30‬ ‭

God Hath Spoken (the verse that satisfies today)
Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.
– Psalm 62:1-2

God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. – Psalms 62:11

How many of us constantly talk to God while we are waiting? We have a hard time sitting alongside Him in silence. I know I have a hard time with it. But I also know that a season of waiting means to do so in body, mind, and spirit. Stop everything. Stop the busyness. Stop overthinking everything. Just be quiet. Just be still.

As in any relationship, times of quiet and contentment, just in who you are together, are vital. Be patient in the waiting and in the quiet. If you find yourself doing anything then let it be listening! If you do not listen, you will never hear what is on the other person’s heart.

This is also true in our relationship with God. If you are constantly talking (even about good things), you will not hear God speak. You will not hear Him say things like – Power belongs to Him! Power belongs to Him. POWER belongs to HIM!

That one verse satisfies all the needs of my longing heart today. POWER!

Ye Observe to Offer Unto Me in Their Due Season
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering, and my bread for my sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season. – ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭28:1-2‬‬‬

Atonement
and one kid of the goats, to make an atonement for you.
 – Numbers 28:30

The Israelites had to bring one spotless, male goat to make atonement. What does that mean?

Atonement – satisfaction or reparation for a wrong or injury; amends.

The children of Israel brought a spotless male goat as a sacrifice to make repayment for their sins.

Because Jesus came to this earth as a man and lived a sinless life  (the spotless Lamb of God) and died on the old rugged cross when He had done nothing to deserve that, Jesus took the place of our sacrifice to make atonement for each of us. The price for sin was a blood sacrifice. If you didn’t make it with a male goat, you would pay it with your very life. Jesus was our blood sacrifice. When He died, He made payment for our sin. But, Jesus rose out of the grave and is now seated at the Father’s right hand. HALLELUJAH! And what is He doing? Right now, this very minute, He is interceding for YOU and ME.

GLORY to GOD!!! I am thankful that He loved me enough to come and make atonement for me!

The Son of God
And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge, which was the son of Maath, which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Semei, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Juda, which was the son of Joanna, which was the son of Rhesa, which was the son of Zorobabel, which was the son of Salathiel, which was the son of Neri, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Addi, which was the son of Cosam, which was the son of Elmodam, which was the son of Er, which was the son of Jose, which was the son of Eliezer, which was the son of Jorim, which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Simeon, which was the son of Juda, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Jonan, which was the son of Eliakim, which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David, which was the son of Jesse, which was the son of Obed, which was the son of Booz, which was the son of Salmon, which was the son of Naasson, which was the son of Aminadab, which was the son of Aram, which was the son of Esrom, which was the son of Phares, which was the son of Juda, which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham, which was the son of Thara, which was the son of Nachor, which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was the son of Phalec, which was the son of Heber, which was the son of Sala, which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech, which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God. – Luke‬ ‭3:23-38‬ ‭‬‬

Genealogy of Joseph
And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, – Luke 3:23

which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God. – Luke 3:38

The reading today is full of seemingly repetition, numbers, and names. But it is incredible here in the New Testament that the writer traced Joseph’s lineage back to God Himself. How many times have we skipped over this section while reading? I have. The Bible clearly shows here how Joseph’s bloodline goes back to God. That means God was his Father. And that means God is our Father too! We say we are His children by adoption, but if we could go back through all of our ancestors, we would find, like Joseph found, that truly we are the children of God!!!

Ponder on that and allow that statement to encourage you today. It has me!

For Thou, O God, Hast Heard My Vows

Thou Hast Heard My Vows
For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. – Psalm 61:5

So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows. – Psalms 61:8

Vow – a solemn promise, pledge, or personal commitment; a solemn or earnest declaration.

The Lord knows the vows that I have made to Him. I made a vow when I received salvation to serve and worship  Jesus as my Lord and Savior and Him alone. There are other vows we take as we go deeper in this walk with Jesus. We pledge to the Lord things when we pray. God expects us to keep and live out our vows.

As a young Christian, for a season, I came under the teaching of Sister Gwen Shaw. Sister Gwen was a missionary and evangelist, but I knew her mostly as a woman of prayer and fasting. I learned much in my early years from her teachings on fasting and prayer. Those who sat under her leadership were called “End-time Handmaidens” and took vows before the Lord. I was so moved by the vows that I took them as well. My heart desires is to live out these vows all the days of my life. I was not vowing to Sister Gwen or her organization. I am in no way affiliated with them. I just came under her teaching. But these vows are holy to the Lord because I made them to Him and Him alone. I have not been perfect in fulfilling them. As I sit here and reread them, I am very aware that I must realign my heart even today.  I do desire to be faithful and true, and if I strive toward anything, it is to be counted faithful to my Lord, Jesus Christ and to those He has set me under at this time. Here are my vows:

Lord, I give myself to You;
I give my life to You.
I want to be your servant.
I feel Your call;
I believe I was sent
To do the will of my Father.

I will take orders from You.
I will submit to You.
I will let You break my will.
I will not seek for comfort
Nor for high position,
Nor to do what I want to do.

Mine is the humblest task,
Or the most dangerous task;
By the grace of God, I will do it.
I will go where You want me to go;
I will do what You give me to do.
If in this walk I seem to have nothing,
I will not complain.

At times when I find myself in a kind of prison,
I will rejoice, and I will praise You
Because You’ve been to prison for me.

I love You, Jesus!

I thank You for calling me,
And that You want me,
And that You can use me;
I thank You that You are there to guide every step
As I do my part to ready
Your bride for Your return.
And I say today with my whole heart,

“Send the Fire and burn up the sacrifice.
Fill me again and again with Thy Holy Spirit
And give me a double portion of Thine anointing.”

The Word of God Came Unto John in the Wilderness
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Cæsar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judæa, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituræa and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. – Luke‬ ‭3:1-2‬ ‭

And He Came Preaching
And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins; as it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, And every mountain and hill shall be brought low; And the crooked shall be made straight, And the rough ways shall be made smooth; And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. – Luke‬ ‭3:3-6‬ ‭

O Generation of Vipers
Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. – Luke‬ ‭3:7-9‬

What Shall We Do Then?
And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then? He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do? And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages. – Luke‬ ‭3:10-14‬ ‭

One Mightier than I Cometh
And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not; John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people. – Luke‬ ‭3:15-18‬

When the people looked to John, he pointed them to Jesus!

Herod Shut Up John in Prison
But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison. – Luke‬ ‭3:19-20‬

Thou Art My Beloved Son
Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. – Luke‬ ‭3:21-22‬

Thou Shalt Be Gathered Unto Thy People
And the LORD said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel. And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered. For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin. – Numbers‬ ‭27:12-14‬

Moses Asks for God to Appoint a Leader
And Moses spake unto the LORD, saying, Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd. And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him; and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight. -Numbers 27:15-19

And Moses Did as the LORD Commanded Him
And Moses did as the LORD commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation: and he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses. – Numbers‬ ‭27:21-23

God told Moses that he would be allowed to see the land which God was giving the children of Israel. He would see it from the top of a mountain, and then he would die. Because of his sin in the wilderness, he would not be allowed to go into the Promised Land.

Moses asked the Lord to set a man over the people to lead them, or they would be as sheep without a shepherd. I love that his concern was not for himself and what lay before him, but instead, it was for the people he was leading.

Another point that touched me was that the Lord appointed Joshua to lead, but He did so when Moses asked. Moses came before the Lord and asked. How important is it that we come before the Lord and ask? Sit before Him today and pray. Ask Him for the things in your heart and ask Him to fulfill them according to His will. There is no telling what God would do if His people would take their place before His throne, entering the place of prayer.

We HE Shall Do Valiantly
Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.
 – Psalms 60:12

I can do nothing except yield.

Legacy (in the Old Testament)
And the sons of Eliab; Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. This is that Dathan and Abiram, which were famous in the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the Lord: And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a sign. Notwithstanding the children of Korah died not
. – Numbers 26:9-11

We probably all tend to skim over chapters like this one with lists of names and numbers. But what spoke to me are those remembered because of their mistakes. Dathan and Abiram are recognized for the rebellion they started against Moses, Aaron, and God Himself. Doesn’t that make you wonder what will be recorded of your life? What kind of legacy will I leave? Will it be one of rebellion against God or of serving Him?

Help me, Lord, to be faithful to You and You alone. Help me to serve You and those You love in all that I do. I cannot do it in and of myself, but with You, I cannot fail. Help me, Lord…in Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen!

Legacy (In the New Testament)
And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; and she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem
. – Luke 2:36-38

Before God called me to anything else, He called me to be a woman of prayer and fasting. I had not grown up learning about fasting and had never even given it thought, so being called to it was a God thing. But I was compelled to begin fasting from the day I was saved and did my first three-day fast in my first week of accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Since then, I have done many fasts and am currently in a corporate 40-day fast. Only God knows all of what He does in these times. I can’t say that I even fully understand being called as Anna was to go into a life of serving God in the place of prayer and fasting and then speaking to the people of what He shows me there. Even so, God still looks to and fro, seeking an intercessor. Jesus said some things go not out except by prayer and fasting!!! Pray always, the Bible says; pray without ceasing! God is at the forefront of every day when it is a day of prayer and fasting, and He always shows up in extraordinary ways!!! Always!!!

The Child Grew and Waxed Strong in Spirit

And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. – Luke‬ ‭2:39-40‬ ‭

His Parents Went to Jerusalem Every Year at the Feast of the Passover
Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. – Luke‬ ‭2:41-45‬ ‭

After Three Days They Found Him in the Temple
And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. – Luke‬ ‭2:46-52‬ ‭

Say What?
He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.
 – Proverbs 11:15

He who puts up security and guarantees a debt for an outsider will surely suffer [for his foolishness], But he who hates (declines) being a guarantor is secure [from its penalties]. – Proverbs‬ ‭11:15‬ ‭ AMP

I had to study on this one because at first it made no sense to me. But study I did.

This verse says that we should not rely on strangers, become secure in their word, or guarantee their debt. This verse says it is foolish to rely on a stranger, so we must stay cautious, but at the same time to be open to them and love them- not to exclude them simply because you don’t know them as well as others. But still, you can’t fully trust someone you don’t know. To do so would be as though you were gambling.
