Declare, if Thou Hast Understanding

Job 38:4

Day 243 One-Year Daily Bible Reaing – Job 37:1–39:30; 2 Corinthians 4:13–5:10; Psalm 44:9-26; Proverbs 22:13

______

Declare, If Thou Hast Understanding
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Who is this that darkeneth counsel By words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; For I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Or who hath stretched the line upon it?
Job 38:1-5

Job and his friends gave words without knowledge. Words not taken to the Father to be empowered by the Holy Ghost before we speak them are words that darken the counsel given. Even flattering words that appear to build up lose their purpose if they do not come from our Father in heaven.

Please help me, Holy Ghost, be mindful that every word from my mouth is of You (or the flesh or enemy). Help my words to be a light to those they are intended to reach. Help them to be ripe with understanding because they came from Your heart and mouth. In Jesus’ Name I ask. Amen!

He Which Raised Up the Lord Jesus Shall Raise Up Us Also by Jesus
We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 4:13-15

Redound – to have a good or bad effect or result; to come back or reflect upon a person as to honor or disgrace

The Outward Man Perish, Yet the Inward Man is Renewed
For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18

An House Not Made with Hands, Eternal in the Heavens
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: if so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 5:1-5

Whilst We are at Home in the Body, We are Absent from the Lord
Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (for we walk by faith, not by sight:) we are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

2 Corinthians 5:6-10

Our readings today in Job and 2 Corinthians remind us that there is more going on than what we can see or know – much more. Our trials may be difficult, but they have purpose and produce glory that outweighs the challenges by stretching and building our faith. Paul believed God was changing us from glory to glory, that everything of this world would one day be swallowed up, and until that day, all these trials were part of our transformation process. What would today look like if we grabbed hold of that same posture?

Heavenly Father, Help me to live a life pleasing to You, knowing that the things of this world may be Your blessings, but there are temporary. Help me be content with such things as the few friendships I have because, honestly, I don’t want to be at home in this body yet apart from You. I want to be in Your presence each and every day for eternity. If it starts down here in some special way as I walk this next season, then let it be so…all for Your Glory, Your honor, and Your praise.

He Knoweth the Secrets of the Heart
If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; Shall not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart. Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; We are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

Psalm 44:20-22

Ten Things God Knows About Man

  • All the ways of man (Job 31:4; Ps 1:6; Prov 5:21; Mk 7:19-21 Heb 4:12)
  • The secrets of the heart (Ps 44:21)
  • The thoughts of men (Ps 94:11)
  • The thoughts afar off (Ps 139:2)

  • The thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb 4:12)
  • The deceitfulness of the heart (Jer 17:9).

Awake, Arise, Redeem
Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Arise, cast us not off for ever. Wherefore hidest thou thy face, And forgettest our affliction and our oppression? For our soul is bowed down to the dust: Our belly cleaveth unto the earth. Arise for our help, And redeem us for thy mercies’ sake

______

Renounce the Hidden Things
Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; but have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

2 Corinthians 4:1-2

Renounce – to give up or put aside voluntarily; to give up by formal declaration

What “HIDDEN THINGS” are we to renounce?
– DISHONESTY,
– CRAFTINESS (skillful in underhand or evil schemes; cunning, deceitful, sly)
– HANDLING THE WORD OF GOD DECEITFULLY

If Our Gospel Be Hid
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4

We Preach Christ Jesus the Lord
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:5-6

Treasure in Earthen Vessels
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

2 Corinthians 4:7-10

Delivered Unto Death for Jesus’ Sake
For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

Our Fathers Have Told Us What Work Thou Didst in Their Days
We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, What work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; How thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them: But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou hadst a favour unto them.
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭44‬:‭1-3‬ ‭

What works of old did their fathers tell them of?

  • How God drove out the heathen with His hand
  • How He planted Israel
  • How God afflicted (punished) and cast out the heathen
  • How God gave Israel to them as their possession
  • How He saved Israel by His power – His own right hand, His arm, and His countenance.

In God We Boast

O Send Out Thy Light and Thy Truth

Psalm 43:3

______

O Send Out Thy Light and Thy Truth
Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation:
O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.
For thou art the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off?
Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me;
Let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.
Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy:
Yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul?
And why art thou disquieted within me?
Hope in God:
For I shall yet praise him,
Who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Psalm 43:1-5

In this Psalm David makes eight requests of God

  • Judge me (Ps 43:1)
  • Plead my cause
  • These first two requests ask God to be his lawyer in his case against the ungodly.
  • Deliver me from deceitful men.
  • Deliver me from unjust men.
  • Send out Your light (Ps 43:3)
  • Send out Your truth.
  • Let them lead me.
  • Let them bring me unto Your holy hill, and to Your tabernacles

__

In this Psalm David asks 4 questions of God

  • For thou art the God of my strength, why dost thou cast me off? (Ps 43:2)
  • Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
  • Why art thou cast down, O my soul? (Ps 43:5)
  • Why art thou disquieted within me?

__

In this Psalm David makes 3 vows to God

  • I will go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy
  • Upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God
  • I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God

______

A Covenant with Mine Eyes
I made a covenant with mine eyes; Why then should I think upon a maid? For what portion of God is there from above? And what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? Is not destruction to the wicked? And a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity? Doth not he see my ways, And count all my steps?
Job 31:1-4

Here, Job speaks of a covenant he made with his eyes. He references it toward looking upon and lusting after a woman, but indeed we can lust for many things of this world. Wealth, position, titles, ease. We look upon what others have, and we think if only we had that. We compare, and the thought develops that it would make us or our lives better. That is lust, and it bears the seeds of jealousy.

Unchecked jealousy brings along with it strife. And as we continue to feed and water jealousy and strife, the Bible says there is confusion and every evil work.

We need to make a covenant with our eyes—a covenant not to allow our eyes to compare and covet. We need to cut jealousy off before it takes root (confess), and if it has taken root, we need to pull it up by the root (repent) and burn the root and any seed that has dropped along the way (go and sin no more). It is evil and not dealt with as the horrible sin it is, leads to every evil work and destruction. It leads to an eternity in hell. Help us, LORD! Please help me!

For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
James 3:16

Ye Are Our Epistle Written in Our Hearts
Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you? Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
2 Corinthians 3:1-3

Our Sufficiency is of God
And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
2 Corinthians 3:4-6

Glorious
But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: how shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
2 Corinthians 3:7-11

Turn to the Lord and the Vail Shall Be Taken Away
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: and not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: but their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
2 Corinthians 3:12-16

Changed From Glory to Glory
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:17-18

I Found Not Titus My Brother
Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord, I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.
‭‭
2 Corinthians‬ ‭2‬:‭12‬-‭13

A Sweet Savour of Christ
Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: to the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ
.
2 Corinthians 2:14-17

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us spreads and makes evident everywhere the sweet fragrance of the knowledge of Him. For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which ascends] to God, [discernible both] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the latter one an aroma from death to death [a fatal, offensive odor], but to the other an aroma from life to life [a vital fragrance, living and fresh]. And who is adequate and sufficiently qualified for these things? For we are not like many, [acting like merchants] peddling God’s word [shortchanging and adulterating God’s message]; but from pure [uncompromised] motives, as [commissioned and sent] from God, we speak [His message] in Christ in the sight of God.
2 Corinthians 2:14-17 AMP

In verse 14 the word “savour” is the Greek word: osme. It means an aroma, an odor, a fragrance. The triumph in Christ described here makes manifest the aroma of His salvation through His ministers.

In verse 15 the Greek word for savour is not the same word. In this verse it is edodia or a “sweet savour” and means sweet perfume. Ministers are a sweet perfume unto God through Christ that is made manifest not only to God, but to all the saved and unsaved. To the saved they are an aroma of life. To the unsaved they are an aroma of death. Whoever receives the gospel (receives Jesus as their Lord and Savior) will be saved and whoever rejects the gospel will be eternally lost.

Simplicity and Godly Sincerity
For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end; as also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are our’s in the day of the Lord Jesus.
‭‭
2 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭12‬-‭14‬ ‭

A Second Benefit
And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit; and to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judæa. When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay? But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

I Determined I Would Not Come Again to You in Heaviness
But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness. For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me? And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all. For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.
‭‭
2 Corinthians‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭

Forgive and Comfort
But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all. Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many. So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow. Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him. For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things. To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

2 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭

As Ye are Partakers of the Sufferings, So Shall Ye Be Also of the Consolation
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
‭‭
2 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭7‬

Partaker – Partner, companion, have fellowship with

Consolation – comfort, solace, help

The more we suffer for Jesus Christ, the more grace and comfort Jesus Christ gives us. (They who suffer the offense of the Cross will also experience the comfort of the Cross). So then, whether we be afflicted or be comforted, it is for our good that we might then be a comfort and help to another that is suffering just as we were comforted and helped – in His name and for His glory.

We Had the Sentence of Death in Ourselves That We Should Not Trust in Ourselves
For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: but we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

Concerning Collection
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem. And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.
‭‭
1 Corinthians‬ ‭16‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭

On the first day of every week every person (no exceptions) is to have put something aside an offering in proportion to his prosperity. It is to be taken up then and saved so that there will not be a need for taking up large collections later.
‭‭

If the Lord Permit
Now I will come unto you, when I shall pass through Macedonia: for I do pass through Macedonia. And it may be that I will abide, yea, and winter with you, that ye may bring me on my journey whithersoever I go. For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit. But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost. For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
‭‭
1 Corinthians‬ ‭16‬:‭5‬-‭9‬ ‭

If Timothy Come
Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear: for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do. Let no man therefore despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me: for I look for him with the brethren.
‭‭
1 Corinthians‬ ‭16‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭

Apollos Will Come When He Shall Have Convenient Time
As touching our brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come unto you with the brethren: but his will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have convenient time.

1 Corinthians‬ ‭16‬:‭12‬ ‭

Watch, Stand, Be Strong, Do All Things with Charity
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. Let all your things be done with charity.

Addicted to the Ministry of the Saints
I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,) that ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth. I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied. For they have refreshed my spirit and your’s: therefore acknowledge ye them that are such.
1 Corinthians 16:15-18

Greetings and Salutations
The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house. All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.

1 Corinthians‬ ‭16‬:‭19‬-‭20‬ ‭

My Love be with You All
The salutation of me Paul with mine own hand. If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maran-atha. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen. The first epistle to the Corinthians was written from Philippi by Stephanas, and Fortunatus, and Achaicus, and Timotheus.

I Waited Patiently for the LORD
I waited patiently for the LORD; And he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. Flesh and Blood Cannot Inherit the Kingdom of God

1 Corinthians 15:50

Day 236 One-Year Daily Bible Reading – Job 12:1–15:35; 1 Corinthians 15:29-58; Psalm 39:1-13; Proverbs 21:30-31

How Are the Dead Raised Up? With What Body Do They Come?
But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain: but God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

1 Corinthians 15:35-41

Sown in Corruption, Raised in Incorruption
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: it is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
1 Corinthians 15:42-45

Flesh and Blood Cannot Inherit the Kingdom of God
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
1 Corinthians 15:45-50

We Shall Not All Sleep, But We Shall All Be Changed
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
1 Corinthians 15:51-54

O Death, Where is Thy Sting?
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

In Whose Hand is the Soul of Every Living Thing?
But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; And the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: And the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these That the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind. Doth not the ear try words? And the mouth taste his meat? With the ancient is wisdom; And in length of days understanding. With him is wisdom and strength, He hath counsel and understanding. Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: He shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening. Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: Also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth. With him is strength and wisdom: The deceived and the deceiver are his. He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, And maketh the judges fools. He looseth the bond of kings, And girdeth their loins with a girdle. He leadeth princes away spoiled, And overthroweth the mighty. He removeth away the speech of the trusty, And taketh away the understanding of the aged. He poureth contempt upon princes, And weakeneth the strength of the mighty. He discovereth deep things out of darkness, And bringeth out to light the shadow of death. He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: He enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again. He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, And causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. They grope in the dark without light, And he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.

The Gospel I Preached, Ye Received, and Wherein Ye Stand
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:1-2

For I Delivered That Which I Also Received
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: and that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: after that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.
1 Corinthians 15:3-11

If There Be No Resurrection of the Dead
Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: and if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: and if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
1 Corinthians 15:12-19

The Firstfruits of Them that Slept
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
1 Corinthians 15:20-25

The Last Enemy that Shall Be Destroyed is Death
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all

Wait on the LORD, and Keep His Way
Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: When the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a green bay tree. Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: Yea, I sought him, but he could not be found. Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: For the end of that man is peace. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: The end of the wicked shall be cut off.
Psalm 37:34-38

Wait on the LORD and keep His way, and there are promises if you do – He shall exalt thee to inherit the land. And when (not if, but when) the wicked are brought down you will see it.

Yet in the Church I Had Rather Speak Five Words with My Understanding
I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
1 Corinthians 14:18-19

Be Not Children in Understanding
Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
1 Corinthians 14:20-21

Tongues are for a Sign
Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: and thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
1 Corinthians 14:22-25

God is Not the Author of Confusion
How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
1 Corinthians 14:26-33

Commanded to be Under ObedienceLet your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
1 Corinthians 14:34-36

Acknowledge that the Things I write Unto You are the Commandments of the Lord
If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order.
